The Qilin (Armadillidae gen. sp.) is among the rarest and most coveted isopods in the entire US hobby. Named after the legendary Qilin, the Asian unicorn long held as a symbol of good fortune, protection, and rarity, this species more than lives up to its namesake. Introduced to the hobby only recently, it remains exceptionally limited, with only a small handful of keepers in the country holding stock.

The Qilin is instantly recognizable for its striking spiky form and uniquely hairy surface. After each molt, fine particles collect along those hairs, lending the isopod an almost teddy bear like appearance that is unlike anything else in the hobby. This is not a cleanup crew species. It is a statement, a crown jewel for the advanced collection.
